Mobile, Ala. — Officer Admire Gant was addressing a domestic incident in the parking lot of the McDonald's Restaurant at 2692 Government Blvd. on the morning of July 13 when he saw something strange out of the corner of his eye…an elderly man staggering out of the restaurant.
Officer Gant quickly recognized the gentleman's gestures as a sign that he was choking. According to the grateful victim, Earsell Stanberry, he was about to lose consciousness when Officer Gant sprung into action wrapping his arms firmly around Mr. Stanberry to perform the Heimlich maneuver and successfully producing the piece of food that was blocking his airway.
Mr. Stanberry, 75, said that he just happened to notice Officer Admire in the parking lot when he entered the restaurant for breakfast. When he realized he was choking, he knew the officer would be able to provide assistance. "I might not be here now if he wasn't there that day," Stanberry said. As for Officer Admire, "It's all in a day's work," he commented casually.
