Law enforcement is a career choice with many rewards. As a metropolitan police force of nearly 500 officers, the Mobile Police Department offers a wide range of work experience from traditional patrol work to highly-specialized assignments. 

Civilian Ride-Along Program

The Mobile Police Department encourages anyone who is interested in law enforcement to participate in a ride along with department personnel. 

Civilian Cadet Corps Program 

If you have strong character, initiative and a calling to service in your community, the Mobile Police Department is seeking young men and women with a high school diploma or its equivalent to serve in the Cadet Program.

Wages and Benefits

For a starting police officer, wages vary according to level of education.

Age and Residency Requirements 

Applicants must be at least 19 years of age. There is no maximum age limit. New residents have 30 days after entering the state to obtain an Alabama Driver's License.

Application Process

The Mobile Police Department usually operates two Academy Classes per year. Applicants who pass the Physical Agility/Ability Test will be provided with a Law Enforcement Officer Physical Agility/Ability Verification Form that must be attached to the online application. Effective July 1, 2017, the State of Alabama has added a Basic Ability Test as a requirement for police officer applicants. Complete this form to have a recruiter contact you and assist you every step of the way to become a Mobile police officer!
