The Records Unit pours through some 6,000 reports monthly. Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, the Records Unit copy and provide citizens with police reports; issue permits to chauffeurs, private investigators, adult entertainers, and solicitors; issue alarm permits; enter investigative reports into the computer system; and compile and submit crime statistics required by the Alabama Criminal Justice Information System.
To obtain criminal records, background checks or to apply for an entertainer, taxi cab/limousine driver or solicitor permit, you must:
Accident reports or incident reports (only requests for burglaries and thefts) may be obtained online or in person. You must have a case number or the exact location of the occurence in order to receive a report. The fee for all reports is $10. All major credit cards, cash, money order and cashier check are accepted.

With the exception of health care providers, appointments are required for fingerprints. To schedule a fingerprint appointment, call 251.208.1731. Arrive to your appointment 20 minutes early due to needing to complete your fingerprint cards. All fingerprint cards must be filled out in black ink only. Health care providers must bring an official ID badge and present it to the clerk.
If you are unable to make your appointment, please call one hour in advance and notify the clerk so that your appointment can be rescheduled. Please wear a mask due to the proximity of you and the fingerprint tech are not six feet apart according to CDC guidelines. If you are having COVID symptoms or feel sick, please reschedule your appointment for the safety of others until your health is better.
