SHOOTING ON WOODLAWN DRIVE (UPDATE #3)

On Wednesday, December 10, 2008 at approximately 6:01 P.M., Mobile Police were dispatched to the 2000 block of Woodlawn Drive South at Garden Park Estates in reference to a report of one shot. Upon arrival, officers discovered that a black male juvenile (14) had sustained a single gunshot wound to the head. The victim was transported to the University of South Alabama Medical Center by Mobile Fire/ Rescue Units where he was listed in critical condition.

Homicide Investigators responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. The investigation revealed that the victim was last seen with two other juvenile males just prior to the shooting. Those two juveniles were located and interviewed.

Investigators initially learned that the victim was accidentally shot by one of the juvenile suspects while playing with a handgun. The juvenile, (b/m, 15) was charged with Assault Second Degree and transported to Strickland Youth Center.

On Thursday, December 11, 2008 the juvenile victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at approximately 10:15 P.M.

Charges on the juvenile suspect were upgraded to Manslaughter. Further investigation by detectives revealed the incident as an intentional act and charges on the juvenile suspect were upgraded to Murder on Friday, December 12, 2008. The suspect remains in custody at Strickland Youth Center.
