Police Investigate a Traffic Stop

On January 21, 2009 at 11:33 AM Mobile Police observed a 1998 Chevrolet Caprice on Halls Mill Road driving erratically, and ran off to the shoulder of the road. The officer initiated a traffic stop and the two vehicles stopped at Bolton Branch Road and Halls Mill Road. While the officer approached the vehicle, he observed the driver place an item in his mouth. The officer then began an investigation.

The driver has been identified as 25 year old Daniel Mingo. During the officer's investigation, Mr. Mingo ran from the officer and the officer began to run after him. While the officer was engaged in a foot pursuit of Mr. Mingo, the officer observed him shedding his clothes while running. The officer then lost sight of Mingo and other officers were called to assist in canvassing the area. Daniel Mingo was later found hiding in a shed in the area. The officers then attempted to handcuff Mr. Mingo, but he resisted arrest and could only be handcuffed after he was touched tased one time. Daniel Mingo was then placed in a patrol car and EMS was called to assess his condition as a result of bizarre behavior. He was transported to Mobile Infirmary West.

Internal affairs and the Mobile Police Homicide Unit were contacted to begin an investigation. Warrants were issued charging Mr. Mingo with D.U.I, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Failure to Obey a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Trespassing Third Degree.
