POLICE INVESTIGATE A TRAFFIC HOMICIDE

On August 26, 2009 at approximately 12:12 PM Mobile Police officers initiated a traffic stop at Lafayette Street and Hogan Street. While the officers were approaching the car, the driver of the vehicle sped away and the officers then returned to their vehicle to pursue the fleeing driver. Police identified the driver of the fleeing vehicle as 36 year old Marcine Herodi Jackson. While Jackson was attempting to elude the officers, he drove into oncoming traffic and collided with a vehicle at Dr. Martin Luther King and Carstens Street. The victim's vehicle was occupied by two adults and a child causing significant damage and multiple injuries.

Officers on the scene contacted the Mobile Fire Rescue to respond. Marcine Jackson and all three victims were transported to USA Medical Center. The two year old child victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Mobile Police Traffic Accident Investigators responded to the scene to begin the investigation. Marcine Jackson has been arrested and charged with two counts of Assault First Degree, Murder, and Felony Attempting to Elude Police, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
