On April 16, 2024, at approximately 1:21 p.m., officers responded to a burglary in progress at 6075 Grelot Road, Ashford Place Apartments, where shots were fired by the resident. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 23-year-old male deceased on the ground.
The investigation revealed that the deceased male and Okoye Day were part of a group attempting to break in. Okoye Day, 22, was arrested and charged with burglary first degree and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm. The case will be presented to the District Attorney's Office for review for additional charges.
The name of the deceased will be released upon notification of the next of kin. This is an active investigation, and no further details will be released at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation.
