New Year's Eve Shooting Leaves One Dead, Nine Injured

On December 31, 2022, at approximately 11:14 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of Dauphin Street concerning shots fired.  Upon arrival, officers discovered that an unknown subject shot a 24-year-old male, and the male was pronounced deceased at the scene.  

During the gunfire, nine other people suffered gunshot wounds.  The victims, ages 17 to 57, were transported to local hospitals with injuries ranging from non-life-threatening to severe.  In addition, two businesses were also struck by gunfire.

This is an active investigation.  We will provide updates as details become available.

Shooting Update:

The Mobile Police Department reports that we currently have a male subject in custody from last night's New Year's Eve shooting.  The subject is receiving medical treatment and, upon release, will be transported to Metro Jail and charged with murder.

The victim has been identified as Jatarious Reives, 24.

During the investigation, Thomas E. Thomas Jr., 22, was identified as the subject involved in the murder of Jatarious Reives, 24.  Mr. Thomas was released from the hospital today, January 5, 2023, and taken into custody.  He's being charged with murder, assault first degree, shooting into an occupied building, and shooting into an unoccupied building.
