MPD School Zone Tips

Aug 3rd, 2022

August is back-to-school time, and Back to School Means Sharing the Road with more drivers and sharing the road with school walkers. While driving, the Mobile Police Department asks that you please slow down in school zones. The safety of our children is everyone’s responsibility.

To help ensure and assist with the safety of everyone, The Mobile Police Department will be out enforcing the speed in school zones while students walk to and from school. Remember to slow down, leave early, and obey all school signs and signals. Speeding tickets in school zones can come with a high cost.

Safety Tips for Motorists:

  • Slow down
  • Be alert for children walking to and from school
  • Stop your car when you see lights flashing on a school bus
  • Do not start driving until the red lights stop flashing
  • Only drive or park in authorized areas to drop off or pick up children after school

Safety Tips for Drivers:

  • Allow yourself enough time
  • Pay extra attention at crosswalks
  • Obey all signs, safety patrol, and officers in your school zone
  • Follow all posted speed limits
