MPD responds to underage drinking complaints

Jul 3rd, 2023

The Mobile Police Department urges businesses to help prevent underage drinking during the Fourth of July holiday. After complaints were received on two local businesses selling alcohol to minors, an underage drinking operation was conducted on June 29.

Snow Road Mart (9850 Airport Blvd.) and Central Stop (7081 Howells Ferry Road) violated ABC license standards by selling to a minor operative without properly checking identification as mandated by the state of Alabama. An arrest has been made at the Central Stop. Manul Shiblee Hoque, 42, was taken into custody and charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor. For Snow Road Mart, a warrant will be signed due to the clerk being a minor, age 16, selling alcohol to a minor operative.

Individuals employed at a business with a state liquor license are reminded to always check for valid identification when selling or serving alcohol regardless of what age the person appears to be.

All other locations including Circle K (6900 Airport Blvd.) and El Jalapeno Mexican Bar & Grill (211 Schillinger Road) were found to be in compliance.

The MPD Office of Strategic Initiatives Underage Drinking Detail is responsible for performing compliance checks throughout the year. For each underage drinking operation, the businesses are randomly selected and includes those where complaints have been received.
