HALLOWEEN SAFETY TIPS

Oct 28th, 2026

As you prepare for Halloween, please make sure you have a plan in place and are prepared for the night's festivities. Below are a few tips that could help improve your safety while trick-or-treating:

  • Young children should always be accompanied by an adult. If possible, always go with a group.
  • If there are no sidewalks, walk facing traffic and stay as far off the road as possible.

  • Wear reflective clothing, if possible, and/or bright costumes. Carry a flashlight to use while walking.

  • Stay in familiar areas and try to go to homes where you know the person or family who lives there.

  • Never enter a stranger's home or car.

  • Drive slowly through residential neighborhoods and watch for children crossing unexpectedly.

  • Put your phone away and never drive distracted or impaired.

  • Use headlights early so pedestrians are easier to see. It's getting darker earlier now, so the sun will set around 6pm on Halloween night.

  • Keep porches, walkways, and steps well-lit

  • Only go to homes that are well-lit
