On Sunday, February 15, 2026, at approximately 11:09 p.m., officers responded to the area of Dauphin Street and S. Joachim Street in reference to a shooting. Officers who were already in the immediate area working within the Entertainment District quickly arrived to assess the incident that occurred in the 200 block of Dauphin Steet. Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple gunshot victims. 3 adult victims were transported by ambulance to local hospitals, while 4 other adult victims arrived to hospitals by personal vehicle.
Upon further investigation, officers discovered an altercation occurred just east of the intersection when shots were fired. In all, the 7 victims were treated for injuries in this shooting, with one of those victims listed in critical condition as of Monday morning.
At the same time, officers also responded to a second incident in a parking lot near Government Street and S. Joachim Street where a male individual was shot and found deceased. Initially, it was believed these two incidents were related, but after further investigation, it was determined these were two separate incidents that occurred simultaneously. In this case, it was discovered a male subject attempted to rob a male victim of his jewelry when the two individuals exchanged gunfire. The victim was struck by gunfire in the exchange and treated for non-life-threatening injuries at a local hospital where he arrived by personal vehicle. The subject is the deceased. Gunfire also struck several unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot during the incident.
The deceased subject has been identified as Javeli Alexander, 21.
