Community members invited to participate in MPD\'s reaccreditation process

Mar 12th, 2021

The Mobile Police Department is seeking reaccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and the public is invited to participate in the process.

Committed to law enforcement excellence, the Mobile Police Department has held its CALEA accreditation status since 1994. Every four years, CALEA conducts a quality performance review to verify that the police department is maintaining standards compliance.

A comprehensive list of the standards titles can be viewed on the CALEA website.

A Call-in Session is scheduled for Tuesday, March 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. allowing community members the opportunity to give their input on the police department’s ability to comply with CALEA standards. To offer comments, call 251-208-1767. Comments will be taken by the CALEA Assessment Team and are limited to five minutes.

Anyone wishing to submit written comments may send them to the mailing address below or via email at calea@calea.org.

Every year, the Mobile Police Department also undergoes an online assessment to ensure it meets updated national standards and best practices in order to maintain CALEA accreditation.

In 1979, CALEA was created as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement’s major executive associations. Its purpose is to improve the delivery of public safety services. For more information, visit calea.org.
