Celebrating with Gunfire, Never a Good Idea

Dec 28th, 2022

As New Year’s Eve approaches, the Mobile Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind the community of the dangers of celebratory gunfire.

Bullets discharged from a gun, even into the sky, must land somewhere, and when they do, they cause significant amounts of property damage to vehicles, homes and can inflict injury or death.

The Mobile Police Department receives numerous reports of celebratory gunfire each New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Therefore, officers will patrol throughout the city to maintain the peace, prevent crime, and ensure everyone brings in the New Year safely.

Citizens are encouraged to contact the Mobile Police Department if they observe someone firing a gun into the air or any suspicious/criminal activity they see occurring. Suspects arrested for a stray bullet that strikes someone’s property or injures another person could be charged with a felony.
