Records and Reports
The Records Detail located at Police Headquarters, pours through some 6,000 reports monthly. The Records Unit is open 7 a.m. - 8 p.m. weekdays to copy and provide citizens with police reports; issue permits to chauffeurs, private investigators, security guards, adult entertainers, and solicitors, enter investigative reports into the computer system; and compile and submit Uniform Crime Supplements, which are crime statistics required by the Alabama Criminal Justice Information System.
Records Requests
To obtain criminal records, background checks, fingerprints, or to apply for a security guard, entertainer, taxi cab/limousine driver, or solicitor permit, you must:
- Appear in person at Police Headquarters, 2460 Government Blvd.
- Present photo identification
- Present a Social Security Card

Fingerprints - $15
Background Check - $10
Solicitor Permit - $25
Entertainer Permit - $100
Security Guard Permit - $25
*Taxi Cab and Limousine Driver Permits - $25
*An additional $18 money order is also required upon meeting with the License Compliance Officer.

Reports Requests
Accident or incident reports may be obtained in person or via mail. You must have a case number or the exact location of the occurrence in order to receive a report. Letters should be mailed to:
