Records and Reports
The Records Detail located at Police Headquarters, pours through some 6,000 reports monthly. The Records Unit is open 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. weekdays to copy and provide citizens with police reports; issue permits to chauffeurs, private investigators, security guards, adult entertainers, and solicitors, enter investigative reports into the computer system; and compile and submit Uniform Crime Supplements, which are crime statistics required by the Alabama Criminal Justice Information System.
Note: If you are coming to Records to get fingerprinted, you need to arrive no later than 4:30 p.m.
Records Requests
To obtain criminal records, background checks, fingerprints, or to apply for a security guard, entertainer, taxi cab/limousine driver, or solicitor permit, you must:
- Appear in person at Police Headquarters, 2460 Government Blvd.
- Present photo identification
- Present a Social Security Card

Fingerprints - $15
Background Check - $10
Solicitor Permit - $25
Entertainer Permit - $100
Security Guard Permit - $25
*Taxi Cab and Limousine Driver Permits - $25
*An additional $18 money order is also required upon meeting with the License Compliance Officer.

Reports Requests
Accident or incident reports may be obtained in person or via mail. You must have a case number or the exact location of the occurrence in order to receive a report. Letters should be mailed to:
