In an evening event sponsored by the Exchange Club of Mobile, sworn officers and civilian personnel of the Mobile Police Department who performed extraordinary service in their call of duty were recognized and honored. The Annual Awards Banquet was held Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Mobile Marriott Hotel.
Commander Kevin Levy and Sergeant Lori Alford received the Distinguished Service Award, presented to sworn personnel who demonstrate high degree of personal initiative, perform substantially above the normal expectations in an exemplary manner, and contribute significantly to the achievement of the department's mission through use of effective tactics and strategies resulting in a significant decrease in crime.
Sergeant Larry Toland, Corporal Patrick Sanders, and Officer Clarence Adams received the Police Combat Cross, presented to police officers who distinguishes themselves during an act of extraordinary heroism while engaged in personal combat with an armed adversary at imminent personal risk to life.
Officer Zackary Davis received the Wounded in Service Award, presented to an officer who, while acting in the performance of duty, is wounded by an armed adversary, and such wound requires medical attention and absence from regular duty for any length of time.
Officer William Byrd, Officer Tilford Saunders, and Officer Zackary Davis received the Meritorious Service Award, presented to an officer who, while serving in his official capacity, was involved in an act of grave personal danger, or an act which would lead the average reasonable police officer to believe that he was in grave personal danger, and the act was in the intelligent performance of police duty.
Officer Joshua Nix, Officer David Goodman, Officer Brian T. Smith, Officer Christopher Main, Officer Anthony Williams, Officer Jimmy Byrd, Officer Eugence Evans, Officer Corrie Hoium, Officer Glenn Barton, Officer Daniel McCarthy, Officer Edward Crawford, Corporal Jeff Corley, Sergeant Michael James, and Officer Gary Owens received the Excellent Police Duty, presented to those who contributed to a valuable accomplishment that demonstrates a special faithfulness, attention to duty, and a highly creditable and unusual police accomplishment gaining credit to themselves and the Department.
Officer Sarah Lambeth, Sergeant Theodore Johnson, Officer Donald Boothe, Officer Jesse Sluder, Officer David Goodman, Officer Charles Dewberry, Officer Corey Evans, Sergeant Larry Toland, Corporal Patrick Sanders, Officer Clarence Adams, Officer William Byrd, and Officer Tilford Saunders received the Lifesaving Award, presented to a police officer who, with or without risk of sacrifice to his or her own life, took the necessary action to prevent the possible or imminent death of a person.
The Homicide Unit and MCSENT Unit received the Chief’s Unit Award, presented in recognition of unusual or outstanding police services performed by a unit of the Department that rise above and beyond individual efforts.
Homicide Unit: Sergeant John Angle, Sergeant Stan Ladnier, Corporal Judd Crepeau, Corporal Jeff Booth, Corporal Kenneth Gillespie, Officer Julius Nettles, and Officer Jermaine Rogers.
MCSENT Unit: Lt. Karl Reed, Sergeant Larry Toland, Corporal Patrick Sanders, Officer William Byrd, Officer Zackary Davis, Officer Tilford Saunders, Officer Brian T. Smith, Officer Clarence Adams, Special Agent Daniel Evans
Citizen Assistance Awardees:
Coleen Tittle, Heidi Robinson, Leah Modelski, and Shamekia Perryman received the Outstanding Civilian Service Award, presented to civilian employees who contribute to a valuable accomplishment that demonstrates a special faithfulness to duty, or a highly credible accomplishment gaining credit to themselves and the Department.
Angela Finch received the Civilian Employee of the Year Award, presented to any civilian employee who distinguishes him or herself with consistent outstanding performance and/or any act that brings favorable credit to the department and promotes goodwill between the Department and the community.
Corporal Kenneth Gillespie received the Officer of the Year Award, presented to an officer who distinguishes himself with consistent outstanding service to the Department and the city.
