The Dragon Boat Festival was held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park.

This past weekend, Mobile PD participated in the 4th annual Fuse Project Dragon Boat Festival. Joining the race for the first-time, the police officers formed the boat team “Five-O Dragons” and placed 8th overall out of 54 teams and received 1st place in the Community Team Division.

With several kids from the community part of the 22-member boat team, Five-O Dragons was able to bring cops and kids together through recreational sports. To continue the goal of engaging with youth in fun and creative ways, Mobile PD plans to become a year-round recreational team.

Saltwater Mafia, a locally-owned apparel business, sponsored Mobile PD’s boat team.

And, from team fundraising, Mobile PD donated $2,500 to contribute to the mission of the Fuse Project.

Fuse Project is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing the spark for innovation, funding and implementation of projects benefiting children along Alabama’s Gulf Coast. During opening ceremony, Fuse Project announced its chosen grant recipients. Because Mobile PD is committed to creating and sustaining youth engagement programs, it was awarded a grant through the Fuse Project.
