Mobile Police to Host International Conference

May 03, 2013

Mobile Police Department is pleased to host the upcoming annual training conference for the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors (IALEFI) on May 5 – 9, 2013 at the Mobile Bay Convention Center. This conference provides IALEFI members with education in the latest techniques and technologies available to the law enforcement firearms instructors. Approximately 400 members from around the country are expected to attend the conference and training sessions, which will be held at the convention center and the Mobile County Metro Firearms Range.

The Department will host a media event on Monday, May 6, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at the Firearms Range located at 12251 Tanner Williams Road. During this time, media will have access to static displays of law enforcement equipment and specialized vehicles. Media will be able to tour the range facilities to get an understanding of the types of training exercises being discussed during this conference.

“The Mobile Police Department is excited at the opportunity to host this event in our city,” said Mobile Police Chief Micheal T. Williams. “We cannot put a price on the amount of training this conference will provide our officers, who would otherwise not have the occasion to obtain such up-to-date instruction. To add the economic impact this convention will have on Mobile simply makes this a win-win situation for the Department and the citizens of our great city.”

David Randel, President and CEO of the Mobile Bay Convention and Visitors Bureau said, “We are excited to have IALEFI in Mobile this week and to introduce them to everything we have to offer, including our riverfront Convention Center, our historic downtown, restaurants, shops and other area attractions and venues. We are so appreciative of the Mobile Police Department’s efforts to bring meetings like this one to our area and are looking forward to future collaboration between our two organizations.”

The International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors is a membership organization organized in 1981 by a group of concerned firearms instructors. They recognized the need for a way to update and modernize the instruction and teaching techniques being used to train the majority of law enforcement officers. IALEFI is an independent, non-profit association supported by dues and managed by a Board of Directors elected from among the active members.
