Today, August31, 2010, is the 3rd year that the 5th Precinct has been in temporary "trailer" housing.
We opened our doors on August 2d, 2007. The completion date of the new Police-Fire Super Station has been adjusted to November 15, 2010 .. so we remain in our temporary housing.
Should you need to make an appointment to speak with the an officer, Supervisor, or the Precinct Commander, please feel free to call at 776-5861.
The Precinct Secretary, Janet Stewart, will be happy to make an appointment for you. Office hours are Monday thru Friday from 0800 AM to 5:00 PM.
You are welcome to come by and visit the Precinct at any time during normal business hours, and speak with a Police Supervisor. However, it is necessary that you make an appointment to meet with a specific individual.
The General Investigation Unit (Detectives) is located at the 5th Precinct in a temporary building. Should you need assistance in getting information concerning a property crime you may call and speak with a Detective. Due to the nature of Investigations, you may have to leave a message and if so, you can expect a return call from the Investigator(s)as soon as they are available to return your call.
If you have additional information, such as serial numbers of stolen property, or additional property that needs to be added to a report, the Desk Officer, Donald Griffith, may be able to assist you in this.
The 5th Precinct serves a "land area" of approximately 76 square miles. Our reported Precinct Population is approximately 50,000 citizens. The precinct area has one of the busiest business corridors in the State of Alabama (Schillinger’s Road) and as most of you know, new housing is going up all over the area. The recent incorporation of the City of Semmes will affect their police and fire services in that area and will not be a part of our emergency response.
Capt Jack Dove is the current Precinct Commander. Capt. Dove has served with the Mobile Police Department since 1978. He holds a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice, with a minor in History and Military science. In addition, he has completed two advanced degree programs, holding a Masters Degree in both Public Administration and a Masters of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.
Sgt. Richard Ramey is the assigned Enhanced Neighborhood Police coordinator for the 5th Precinct. He can be reached through the main number at 776-5861. He will be glad to assist you in establish a Community Action Group in your neighborhood, or helping you in joining an already established group.
If we can be of any assistance to you, please feel free to call. If you have an EMERGENCY .. call 911 for an immediate police response.
We have posted the latest "progress" picture for the new police Precinct on this page. The photo was taken September 1, 2010.
We ask each and every Citizen to assist the Mobile Police Department in reducing crime. Please secure your valuables, lock your car doors and watch out for your neighbors. If you see something you think is suspicious .. please call the Police.
Thanking you in advance for your help,
Capt. Jack Dove, MPA, MSCJ
Commander, 5th Precinct.
