The First Precinct, commanded by Captain Clay Godwin, is responsible for the Southeast area of the Mobile police jurisdiction. The main precinct station is located at 850 Virginia St. and a downtown substation called "Central Events" is located at 320 Dauphin St. A state-of-the-art camera system in the downtown area feeds continuous images of the downtown business and entertainment districts to a bank of monitors in the substation.
The population of the First Precinct is approximately 59,000 residents. In 2009, officers answered more than 67,000 calls for service.
